The Woodgate Community Shop is the new store at Woodgate, located in a building that has been constructed by Thakeham for the benefit of the local community.
The Woodgate development is a new community on the outskirts of Pease Pottage, West Sussex and is sees the building of 619 new homes, creating a brand new community within the already well-established village of Pease Pottage that already has over 250 homes.
Those living within Woodgate and Pease Pottage have felt the inconvenience of living in a community without a shop, and the social consequences have been significant. It was also very important to the developers of Woodgate that a shop be at the heart of their new development.
A community shop provides a place to buy essentials needed for everyday life, as well as the opportunity to meet neighbours
Many of us feel we need to create a sense of community and a way to connect with our neighbours. And have access to affordable essentials without the need to leave the local area.
The shop stocks all your everyday essentials from milk, eggs and bread to household cleaning products.
The Woodgate Community Shop is has been set up and run by a group of local residents who have given up their time to create the shop and to help build the community around Woodgate.
The committee was established in early 2021 and have worked very hard to bring to life the vision Thakeham had for the community on Woodgate. There are currently five members of the committee.
We always welcome new members to the committee, a range of skills and experience is required. Any member can put themselves forward to be elected to the committee. Please get in touch if you are interested in joining the committee.

I have been a resident here for 10 months and love the whole concept which has been achieved here by Thakeham and St Catherines.

For my day job I work for an international conservation charity in the fundraising team, so a part of my role in the committee is helping to raise the money we need. I've been on the committee since the beginning, bar a short break in 2022 and am really excited to be part of the new chapter that will be getting the shop opened this year. I moved to Woodgate in March 2021, so I guess I'd be considered a Veteran resident now. You'll most likely find me in the forest with my two dogs or running around the development in lycra with other odd people that think running is fun.

I'm Eva, a software engineer. We moved to the estate in April 2023 and are loving the community here and being so close to nature. In my free time, I love to take long walks, indulge in one (or more) of my DIY projects, play video games with my son or tinker on the shop's website.
I'm Jess Howes, one of the newer residents of Woodgate, having finally moved in 2023. I am delighted to be a part of the Woodgate Shop Community, and super excited about getting to know more of my fellow residents as time passes.
